Last week, i shared with you that I read Bo Sanchez' book entitled
8 Secrets of the Truly Rich. Today, i will share with you the first secret. I will just jot down some notes i have learned from his book so i hope this will be beneficial for those who read the book and kept it in the shelves and for those who haven't read the book yet. So here we go...
The first secret is to
be totally responsible for your success. Deuteronomy 30:1 says, "I have now given you a choice between a blessing and a curse. When all these things have happened to you... you will remember the choice I gave you." God gave us an amazing gift and that is the power of choice. The point is, its really up to us if we want to be truly rich.
Stop the blame. Henry David Thoreau said, "Things do not change; we change." Blame robs you of your power to determine your life.
Stop blaming the government for your poverty. George Washington Carver said, "99% of all failures come from people who have a habit of making excuses." Why is it that your neighbor is rich and you are not? Despite the fact that you are under one government? You can't blame the government that you are poor and your neighbor is not. It's really up to you. Don't wait for prosperity from the government. If you want prosperity, you've got to go and create it yourself. Only you and God working in you can create the wealth you want.
Stop blaming your family for your poverty. Jim Rohn said, You can't hire someone else to do your pushups for you." Henry Sy, Lucio Tan, and John Gokongwei all came from a poor family. Worse, they are all chinese having a language barrier working their way to the top in the Philippines. Chinese parents teach their children to study hard so they can start their own business and help people get jobs. Filipino parents teach their children to study hard so they can work for the best companies out there. Which mindset would you prefer? If you want to get our of poverty, nothing can stop you. Not your corrupt government or family lineage.
Stop blaming the devil for your poverty. Pogo said, "We have met the enemy and it is us." It's easier to blame the devil than to acknowledge our responsibility to change our lives.
Stop blaming God for your poverty. A Latin proverb quotes, "If there is no wind, row." The chances of winning a lotto is equal to the likelihood of being hit by lightning twice at the same spot.
You're the product of your thoughts, choices, and habits. Maya Angelou said, "If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't complain." Aristotle said, "Excellence is not an act but a habit. We are what we repeatedly do." Jim Rohn said, "Failure is not a single, cataclysmic event. You don't fail overnight. Instead, failure is a few error in judgment repeated everyday." You become what you repeatedly do. You become poor because you have the poor man's money habits.
You can create a new pattern of success. Benjamin Disraeli said, "Man is not the creature of circumstances; circumstances are the creatures of man." Did you know that Albert Einstein was dumb in school? Here are what some of his teachers say about him. Albert Einstein's first teacher said to him, "No matter what you do, you will never amount to anything." His second teacher said, "Your mere presence spoils the respect of the class for me." Another teacher's response when Albert's father asked him what he should pursue, "It doesn't matter; he'll never make a success of anything." How did that dumb Albert Einstein became known today as a genius? He created a new pattern of success and so can you.
